A very big thank you to
Woolworths in Cape Town for their contribution towards our fund raising
efforts to build a new Centre. Your support is much appreciated.
A heartfelt thank
you goes out to Gea Schmidt, a long term sponsor and friend from the
Netherlands, for all her kindness and support over the years.
Gea tells her
story:
“I met Florence Dodovu in 1998 for the first time. My husband, my
daughter and I visited her, accompanied by a teacher from the University of
the Western Cape in Mfuleni, when she still lived in a shack made of wood.
There she took already care of a group of small children.
In 1999 we stayed for a longer period in Cape Town and I had the
opportunity to meet her several times. We went shopping and had lunch
together. We even organised a Christmas party, with a ‘real’ Dutch Father
Christmas, presents and music (songs and guitar by our son). Since then I
kept in contact with Florence and donated money frequently. Whenever I was
in South Africa we met, and I could buy her groceries and other things that
she needed, like a mobile phone. I also sent Christmas presents every year
for the children.
In 2009 I contacted ‘helping hands’ for her, for fundraising. I feel proud
of the good work Florence is doing and support she is receiving from her
friends Niki and Martin. The last time I saw her was in 2009, but my
daughter visited het this year when she spent her holidays in SA. From the
Netherlands I will keep on sending donations”.
